Each client family is different and each client receives a customized approach. We know what you are going through, what could be appropriate for your special needs person, and will find solutions. Housing is the central issue on which we focus; however, our work also involves most aspects that touch the individual’s life. We aim to find the setting that affords the highest degree of suitable independence, access to recreation, jobs, social opportunities, and community engagement.
We tailor each housing solution to the individual (or group of individuals). We look at both OPWDD certified placements and private solutions. Some people want to start a private group home for several residents in a ranch house while others wish for a single person apartment in a town or city. Some homes use a combination of public and private funding, and others are entirely within the Medicaid system. Occasionally groups come to us who want a single-family home with a unit for a caretaker or have two groups that want to share a duplex. New pioneering developments in New York City have individual apartments in buildings with caretakers nearby. Over time additional options will emerge.
We have found residential solutions which range from a group home to an individual condominium. We are in close touch with housing agencies and with private groups building intentional communities.
We are not real estate developers or brokers and cannot guarantee any specific housing setting, but will work with the client to finding a suitable residence that considers the client’s specific needs.
